Topic- Merit badge workshops Merit badge workshops are a place for scouts of all ranks who were previously unable to complete the paperwork and other requirements needed to obtain their specific badge. The hard work that is related to earning the merit badge is well worth it because these merit badges are the way to advance through the scouting ranks and eventually obtain the rank of Eagle Scout. Each merit badge can take a different amount of time that can range from a couple of days for the easy merit badges like fire starting to citizenship in the nation which is a series of merit badges that can take upwards of three months from start to finish. Some of the most memorable merit badges that I have achieved are, metalworking, citizenship in the nation, shotgun, wilderness survival, among many, many other merit badges. There are many Eagle-required merit badges, however, there are a number of enjoyable non-Eagle Scout required merit badges that scouts can enjoy and obtain such as Metalworking, basket weaving, leatherworking, etc. Non-eagle-required merit badges can take as long as a day or longer. The merit badge workshops are typically adult lead and run. During my time as my troop's assistant senior patrol leader, I was able to sign off on other scout's merit badge requirements Some of the scouts in my troop had extenuating circumstances which prevented them from completing all of the merit badge requirements, so the youth and adult leadership made some changes to the merit badge requirements.  One of the merit badges that I earned while I was a scout was the camping merit badge which required that I had to spend 27 nights camping. When a scout earns a merit badge, the merit badge is put into a computer system where the name of the badge and the date of it being earned, the scout and his parents are also given a hard copy of the merit badge and the date on which it was earned. Now that being said, Some merit badges may take a lot longer than anticipated due to the required amount of coursework for the specific badge. A good percentage of the adult leadership in my troop were qualified to teach some merit badges such as canoeing, citizenship in the nation merit badges, animal studies, etc. All of the merit badge workshops took place at a place the scouts would refer to as merit badge university
